How Long Does Mold Abatement Take?

Mold abatement is a crucial process for safely and effectively removing mold from your property, ensuring a healthier environment. Since every mold issue is unique, the time required for abatement depends on several factors, including the type of mold, its location, and the extent of the infestation.

The duration of the mold abatement process varies depending on the size and severity of the issue. In general:

  • Smaller Areas: Abatement can take as little as 1–2 days for minor mold problems.
  • Moderate to Large Areas: Larger infestations or those involving multiple rooms may require 3–7 days or more.

Our team works efficiently while ensuring every step is performed with care and precision.

Mold Treatment Techniques

  • HEPA Vacuuming – HEPA vacuuming refers to the process of vacuuming areas affected by mold using a vacuum that incorporates a HEPA filter. This helps remove any loose mold and the HEPA filter traps any small particles or mold spores and prevents them from becoming air borne.  Following it’s use the HEPA filters are properly disposed of.
  • Air Scrubbers – Because mold spores travel through the air, a scrubber cleans the air of any spores that are air borne. When our technicians detect the presence of air borne spores from an air quality test, air scrubbers are almost always used to deal with this problem.
  • Other Techniques – Other procedures used in mold remediation and abatement include the use of anti-microbial sealants, scrubbing pads, and various chemicals approved by the EPA for mold removal.

Common Areas Affected by Mold

Mold can grow in any area with high moisture or areas that has suffered water damage.  Some common areas our professionals have treated for mold include the following:

Attics

Attics are often overlooked, so mold growth can become significant before it’s noticed. Areas like air conditioning handlers and water heaters, often located in attics, can be sources of moisture and humidity, contributing to mold problems. By the time it’s discovered, the damage can be extensive. In severe cases, it may be necessary to remove and replace damaged materials. After mold removal, we apply an anti-microbial sealer to vulnerable areas, preventing future mold growth and protecting your home.

Crawl Spaces

Many Florida homes have crawl spaces, which, despite being out of sight, can be prime breeding grounds for mold due to limited light and ventilation. Mold in a crawl space can spread to your subflooring and other areas of your home if left untreated.

To address crawl space mold, we use negative air pressurization to prevent cross-contamination. HEPA vacuums are employed to clean framing, joists, and subflooring. We also clean ductwork, conduits, and framing, followed by scraping, sanding, or dry ice blasting the wood as needed.

Finally, we apply an anti-microbial sealer to the wood surfaces, ensuring mold doesn’t return. This thorough process protects your home from the harmful effects of mold and ensures long-lasting results.

HVAC Systems

Addressing a home or businesses HVAC system is extremely important. The easiest way for mold spores to be transmitted throughout a property is through the HVAC system.  HVAC systems and their duct work are naturally moist as condensation is a by product of their function.  The lack of light also creates a perfect breeding ground for mold.  When clients tell us they detect a musty smell in the air inside their home, it’s often an indication that the HVAC system has been compromised.  In addition, any mold or mildew that can be seen on the AC coils, filters or the duct work are signs you could have a mold problem.
